International Institute of Management Sciences (IIMS) came into existence in 1979. IIMS was the first in India to receive All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Govt. of India, approval in 1991 for offering PGDBA (equivalent to MBA) in distance learning mode. IIMS commenced 2-year full-time MBA Programme in 2004 with the approval of AICTE Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India and is affiliated to Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formely known as West Bengal University of Technology). The Institute is also affiliated to Vidyasagar University for conducting MBA course through distance learning mode.

In 2011, IIMS joined hands with Auckland Institute of Studies, one of the largest independent tertiary education institutions in Auckland, New Zealand, to introduce MBA and undergraduate programmes through cross-credit pathway.
